Thanks to social media, connections are saving the lives of thousands of dogs and cats every month.
The days of “doing it on your own” are no longer the most productive. It is more and more difficult for “lone ranger” rescues to try and go it alone.
The past 20 months we’ve saved 1,500+ dogs who now have new homes in Colorado.
Organizations that work with us come from Arkansas, from far-eastern Oklahoma to I35 near the Texas border.
Our first responsibility is always the dogs in the Vinita municipal pound. We also work with other municipalities throughout the area.
And, thanks to social media and word of mouth, many rescues are working with us.
If you come by the shelter on a Monday or Tuesday, you will see vans, trailers and cars pulling into our sally port.
Then if you come back around 7:00–7:30 that evening, you’ll see PAAS employees loading our van to head for Denver Dumb Friends League in Colorado.
Wednesday through Friday, those same rescue partners begin sending us pictures and information for the next week’s transfer.
The internet becomes our link to this part of the operation.
Of course, deep-cleaning is just SOP.
In addition, our staff work with the dogs we’ve rescued who are in training at Northeast Oklahoma Correctional Center to improve their socialization and improve their adoptability.
When we have a minute to catch our breath, we share stories, bounce around new ideas and, inevitably, we will also have rescue organizations reach out to join us.
Rhonda, our veterinary technician, is the point person for all the rescues.
At the end of the day, week, month or year – we look back and go “WOW”.
The original mission statement said PAAS would save thousands.
We geared it back to hundreds when we first opened.
Changing our mission to be a transfer organization, we are now saving thousands.
And, 90% of it is because of connections. Networking saves lives!
When you see our vans – honk and wave. We’re on a mission – to save homeless dogs and cats.
